From Universiti Putra Malaysia

Nominated by Lau Gee Een

Dear Sir/Madam, I am at one of the postgraduate student of Dr Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah. Dr Che Abdullah did her PhD at the University of Surrey. It was a pleasure to work under Dr Azura she was hard working, highly motivated, intelligent and capable of working independently. She produced excellent work, rapidly learning skills and working well with other students, postdocs, technicians, and academics as needed. Dr Azura did published many papers in top quartile (as ranked by impact factor) international journals. Dr Azura rapidly developed into an independent researcher who would bring new papers to meetings, come up with original ideas, and independently foresee and solve problems. She also expert not only materials science but also in basic cell culture and immunology. Dr Azura has continued her good work and is currently leading a project on drug delivery. Malaysia is lucky to have a scientist with this rare and valuable skill set. It is clear that the interface between nanotechnology and biology will be very important in the 21st century both scientifically and economically. For example, the cells in our body are embedded in a nanostructured matrix. Using nanotechnology to mimic this will transform fields such as pharmaceutical compound testing, and is a key component of tissue engineering. It would benefit Malaysia to be competitive in this rapidly growing field, and to do this will require developing able scientists such as Dr Azura. Finally, I would like to say that Dr Azura is one of the most able and determined young scientists and so it is a pleasure to recommend her to you.
