The Three Pillars
Our Balanced, Active Lifestyles (BAL) initiative focuses on three key areas:
| 1. |
Offering a wider Menu Choice
We offer a diverse range of relevant, high quality food and beverage choices, in varied portion sizes to cater to the dietary needs of our customers.
|
| 2. |
Providing Nutritional Information
We offer user-friendly nutrition information to help our customers plan their meals at McDonald's by making informed choices.
|
| 3. |
Promoting Physical Activity
We promote simple and fun ways for children and families to incorporate physical activities into their everyday lives.
|
BAL initiative in Malaysia
McDonald's Malaysia has been vigorously putting the BAL initiative into action. Here's how.
| 1. |
Increasing menu choice
In Malaysia, our effort in promoting the Balanced Active Lifestyle initiative includes the introduction of more menu choices such as the Grilled Chicken Foldover™, Spicy Beef Foldover™ and 3 new additions to the Happy Meal™ menu i.e. the Grilled Chicken Burger, the Corn Cup and Soya Bean Milk.
We have created 100 fun, tasty and balanced combinations to the Happy Meal™ menu that will offer a wide variety of choice to customers.
|
| 2. |
Providing nutritional information
We believe in providing customers with nutritional information so they can make informed decisions for themselves. This is why we have added new elements to the packaging of our Happy Meal™ box.
The new box features health tips and information, as well as a special mini leaflet with fun facts, tips and information on nutrition, good eating habits and the importance of physical activity.
McDonald's has produced a Food Quality and Nutritional Information leaflet which talks about nutrition, as well as the quality measures that go into our food, from ingredients to preparation to serving. It is available at all McDonald's restaurants nationwide.
|
| 3. |
Encouraging physical activity
Healthy eating must be balanced with proper physical activity. We refer to it as Energy Balance - balancing Energy In - the foods we eat - and Energy Out - our level of activity or exercise.
We are committed to promoting active lifestyles. During the FIFA World Cup Germany in 2006, McDonald's was one of the official sponsors. We have been organising the annual Olympic Day Run in collaboration with the Olympic Council of Malaysia. The Fitness Fun with Ronald McDonald program is another initiative, which we have carried out to cultivate balanced, active lifestyle habits among children.
